Shaw Communications Engineering Departments was looking for a workplace solutions that would promoted collaboration, communication, innovation and team work and better supported employees specific business needs. The Engineer team’s previous offices were scattered throughout different facilities across the City of Calgary making team collaboration and fostering a energetic corporate culture a challenge. One of the biggest challenges for our Design Team was addressing the warehouse space with its 30’ ceilings and its conversion to functional office space. Seamless connectivity between these two spaces was important. We managed this by keeping all meeting rooms and amenity spaces central in each space, creating hubs with the intent that they would help foster collaboration, employee interaction and creativity which is an encouraged culture of Shaw Communications. Surrounding the meeting and amenities hubs are open plan workstations that provide all employees with ample space, tools and open collaboration to support each employee job functions. Smaller breakout spaces within the workstations are used for team collaboration, but all are encouraged to use the hub areas for team work and utilizing the workstations for heads down work.
